Carnilove Dog Treats

22 products

Carnilove treats are grain free and built round unusual proteins, the same approach as the food. Duck, quail, ostrich, wild boar, trout, sardines, mackerel, venison and rabbit all appear here, most of them paired with a herb or a berry. Bags are small and the range is priced to be bought a few at a time.

Four formats, and they do different jobs

Semi-moist soft treats come in 200g bags and are the ones to use for training, because they are small, soft and swallowed quickly. Crunchy treats are also 200g and are the everyday biscuit of the range. Meat jerky comes in 100g bags of dried fillets and bars, which take a dog longer to work through. Freeze dried is the newest part of the range and the purest, and it is the one to reach for with a dog that turns its nose up at processed treats.

If you are buying for a training class, buy soft. If you are buying something to hand over at the end of the day, buy jerky.

Not all of these are chicken free, and the food is

This catches people out. Every Carnilove dry recipe leaves chicken out completely, which is a large part of why owners of itchy dogs pick the brand. The treats are not all the same. Several of the jerky bars are built on chicken, paired with wild boar, pheasant or quail, and the protein on the front of the bag is only half the story.

If you moved to Carnilove specifically to get chicken out of your dog's diet, read the treat bag rather than assuming it follows the food. The single-protein jerky fillets and the freeze dried treats are the safer picks.

Buy for the meat, not the botanicals

Rosemary, oregano, dill, wild garlic, blueberries, blackberries, rosehips, cranberries and raspberries all appear in the names. They are there in small quantities and they are not the reason to buy the treat. The proteins are. If your dog does well on trout, buy the trout one and pay no attention to the dill.

Where these are the wrong buy

Dogs on a proper veterinary elimination diet should not have these, even the single-protein ones, until your vet says the trial is finished. A treat is the commonest way an exclusion diet gets broken without anyone meaning to.

These are also small treats in small bags, not occupation. A dog that needs half an hour of chewing wants a bone or an ear, and that is Paddock Farm rather than this page.

If your dog is already on Carnilove food, matching the treats to it is a sensible way to keep the diet consistent. The rest of the grain free range is in grain free dog food and treats.
