Great product

Bought this to feed my bunnies & guinea pigs while we are away. Set it up a couple of days ago to make sure it works before we go away & so far so good. I don't think the instructions are confusing but you do need to read & follow them properly! It's very sturdy & the food container has a clipped lid so I think it would be virtually impossible for the animals to get to the food. 6 inquisitive bunnies & 2 greedy guinea pigs haven't managed to knock it over or disturb it so it's doing well!

Wish I'd bought this first

Bought this to replace another feeder that could only do 4 feeds. Ranging from 1 to 4 a day. We had a 3 day trip planned and wanted something a bit more reliable that could supply more feeds. Ordered this and set it up. Cat took to it straight away, unlike last one. Family problems meant 3 day trip turned into 8 days and this machine performed perfectly. Only had to get friends to pop in and give her some company and check the water ect. No need to ask them to feed her at certain times, the machine was on top form. Took the pressure off friends timekeeping. Seems pricey but the price of mind it gave was great.

Top product

Excellent product, worth the money. We have two, one for a holiday home. The hopper holds lots of food, so we just use it for normal feeding as well as when we are away. I'm sure we bought the first one well over a year ago but the batteries are still going strong. It's true that the set-up instructions seem a bit complicated but they are just like any other thing like that, a switched timer for central heating for example, so you just follow them carefully. Some comments point out that it is a bit noisy. Also true, and I doubt that it needs to be quite so loud, but the aim is to tell animals, even if they are a bit far away that it's food time - and it works. The other criticism I have read is that animals can tip it over. I doubt that a cat could. Or somehow work their way in. I doubt that too, our cats are clever but they don't have the manipulative skills to flip the clips off the top. So no negatives at all really, you just need to decide if your specific needs justify the price.

Excellent feeder, with a little modification.

Bought this to replace the Catmate C20 which our cat destroyed. Overall I'm very happy with it, but it does have a few minus points. Our cat (a not-very-big, one-eyed cat) managed to get the lid off on the first 'test run'. We only left him for a few hours, during which time he had removed the lid, tipped the whole thing over and eaten so much he could hardly move! I've modified the lid as follows: I drilled one hole through each of the two flaps, put a plastic car number plate bolt through from the inside, then a plastic nut to keep it in position, then shut the flap and put another nut on the outside to stop the flap being opened by the cat. You only need to undo the outer nut on each side to get the lid on and off - the bolt and first nut stays where it is, and finger-tight seems more than adequate. I didn't use steel nuts and bolts in case he decided to chew at them and damage his teeth. Before modifying the feeder I watched him take the lid off, which took him just a few minutes. The problem is that the flaps have a small gap under them to allow you to get a finger under to unclip them. Unfortunately it also allows the cat to get his claw under and flip them up. The instructions recommend screwing the base to a board using the purposely designed holes provided. I did this and cured the tipping problem immediately. The programming can be a little non-intuitive, but is fairly easy once you do it a few times. Also, the unit can be switched off without losing the settings, so if you set it for the cats normal feeding times you only do it once anyway. It can normally only dispense up to 3 meals in any 24 hour period at set times, but can also be set to 'little and often' mode where it will deliver a user specified total amount of food at regular intervals over a user set period. I believe earlier models had a problem where a determined cat could poke a paw up the delivery spout and upset the workings. The later models have a different spout and proper device to blank access off while it is not actually dispensing, which seems to have solved the problem completely. Having used the feeder properly a few times now I am very confident in leaving it and our cat together unattended!
